RIPA – fit for purpose?
Further to our RIPA article we wrote a while ago, we saw this article on the BBC news, dated 6th December 2014 as to whether RIPA was fit for purpose in its current set-up. We thought we would share it with you.

Remember, the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act are the rules that have to be followed when surveillance is conducted by or for a local authority or government body. These rules are not applicable if a private investigator is working for a private or commercial client.
The article specifically relates to the ongoing news items regarding the phone hacking scandals. It examines whether police have followed RIPA when looking at telephone records of journalists and also the “Plebgate” scandal involving former Tory whip Andrew Mitchell.
